October 2020 Newsletter
Author: Roger Francis (Chairman (SWC)
Dear all,
Next Meeting Sometime in the future?
I hope that this newsletter finds you all fit and well during these trying times, if you are like me it’s all wearing a bit thin at the moment, there is a limit to how much Sudocko, patience, canasta one can play in a day. Thank goodness for hobbies that I can still participate in on my own from home, but I must say I really miss the group meetings especially the banter and camaraderie.
I have spoken to a few from the group over the last couple of weeks, and I am sure that you will join me in wishing a belated happy birthday to John Veale who was 93 last Saturday( John and Terry are both well). If anyone has any news that they would like to share with the group please let me know and I will be happy it pass it on.
On a personal front Barbara and I are to become grandparents for the first time in Januaury, I haven’t told my daughter-in-law that we have a history of big babies in the family, my brother was and still is the biggest baby born at Southmead Hospital at 19lb, I was 14lb and both of our sons were 9.5lbs.
On a less happy note, I have to have a hip replacement (I have real mobility problems) but no doubt this will be on hold due to Covid restrictions.
Group Meetings: I had started to negotiate group meetings but the introduction of the “6 rule” scuppered that, and with the threats of more restrictions I cannot see us meeting until next year.
WWT: Still has a booking system in place for visits and at busy times you may be asked to wait in your car if there is a lot of visitors waiting to gain access. Winter migration has started and the first Redwings have been seen already, there are large flocks of teal and winter waders have started to return.
I know many of you use facebook and already follow Floyd Scholzs carving page, but thought I would add a link to some of his work:

Stay safe and well .
Hope to see you all sometime soon.
